Jyotirlinga | Temple, Energy Source or Something Else?
What is a Jyotirlinga?
There are substantially three supreme gods in Hinduism: Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. The control of every exertion of this living and non-living world is believed to be in the hands of these three gods. Their functions are as follows: Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the conserver, and Mahesh, i.e., Shiva is the destroyer.
Shiva is generally considered a god with a simple nature, but his second form is of fierce anger and destruction. He is also known as Mahadev, the god of gods. An important form associated with Lord Shiva is – Jyotirling, which is the topic of today’s discussion.
According to Hindu scriptures from India, Jyotirlingas are places where Shiva manifested himself as a radiant pillar of light. Jyotirlinga comprises two words – “Jyoti” and “Linga”. “Jyoti” means light and “Linga” is considered to be a symbol of the infinite form of Lord Shiva, which is beyond any beginning or end. Inside Shiva temples, it is represented by an oval stone.

Difference between Jyotirlinga and Shivalinga
Jyotirlinga – It is believed to be self-manifested and directly related to Lord Shiva. – There are only 12 recognized Jyotirlings, making them unique and special. – Jyotirlingas are said to have originated from Lord Shiva, in the form of a glowing pillar of light. Shivalinga – Shivlingas can be both natural (self-manifested) or man-made. – Shivlings are more common and can be found in various forms and sizes. – It symbolizes the infinite, formless, and absolute nature of Shiva. – They are found in Shiva temples around the world. All Jyotirlingas are Shivalingas, but not all Shivalingas are Jyotirlingas. Thus, Shivalinga is the general form of Lord Shiva, who is present everywhere, but Jyotirling is a specific form of Lord Shiva.Jyotirlinga Stuti of Lord Shiva
